2)	AGI GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS MONTHLY REVIEW: DECEMBER 2007 - Correction
The announcement for the Edward C. Roy Teaching Award (item 12) mistakenly indicated that Dr. Roy was Assistant Professor, Professor, Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Trinity College. Dr. Roy was, in fact, at Trinity University not Trinity College.
My thanks to Marina Suarez (Trinity University class of 2003) for pointing out the error and apologies for any confusion it may have caused.
The ad is reprinted today under item 4.

3)	CPST DIVERSITY WORKSHOP INVITATION AND REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS
With funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology (CPST) has teamed up with the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) and the National Academies to develop a guide for professional societies on increasing diversity in science and engineering. The plan is to take an inventory of activities already in place, determine the extent to these activities have been assessed/evaluated, and then develop cooperative strategies to increase the participation of minorities and women in science and engineering.

The workshop will be held from 11:30 - 5 pm on Thursday 2/14/2008 in Boston, MA prior to the start of the AAAS Annual Meeting (which starts with a keynote talk and reception later that evening). Lunch will be provided at the workshop.
For additional information, please contact Nathan Bell or Lisa Frehill at (202) 326-7080 or info@cpst.org.
CPST would like to invite an AWG representative to attend this workshop so we are looking for a volunteer (or even volunteers!) Are you involved with AWIS or AAAS? Do you live in the Boston area or will you be there for the AAAS meeting? Would you like to volunteer to represent AWG at the CPST workshop? Contact AWG Past President Nadine Langley (nlangley@handk.net) if you are!

4)	AGI AND AGIF ESTABLISH AWARD FOR EXEMPLARY K-8 SCIENCE TEACHER
The American Geological Institute (AGI) and the AGI Foundation are pleased to announce the creation of the Edward C. Roy, Jr. Award for Excellence in Earth Science Teaching. Given annually, this award recognizes one classroom teacher from kindergarten to eighth grade for his or her leadership and innovation in earth science education.
The winner will receive a $2,500 prize and an additional grant of $1,000 to enable the recipient to attend an AGI member society conference. To be eligible for this year’s competition, applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2008.
This award is named in honor of Dr. Edward C. Roy, Jr., who was a strong and dedicated supporter of earth science education. He served as Past President of AGI, chaired the AGI Education Advisory Committee, and received both the Ian Campbell Medal and the Heroy Distinguished Service award. In addition, he served as the Gertrude and Walter Pyron Distinguished Professor of Geology at Trinity University, as Dean of the Division of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering, and as Vice President for Academic Affairs. Roy was also appointed Chair of the Texas Earth Science Task Force by the Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency.
