1) CALL FOR PROPOSALS FROM AWG FOUNDATION
AWGF, your Foundation, will support worthy proposals to advance the
goals of AWG. Due to the continuing generosity of many members of AWG, we
have significant resources with which to support your efforts to
Encourage, Exchange and Enhance. Whether you want to continue an ongoing
project or develop a new one please act now to prepare your proposal.
Project reports for all current projects, and grant applications for
funding (new projects and renewals) are due to AWGF Friday, October 15.
Grant applications forms and complete, revised instructions are
available on the AWG website at http://www.awg.org/AWGFoundation/#request.
We encourage electronic submission of your 1-2 page proposals as .doc
or .pdf files to awgf@awg.org. If sending by snail mail, please mail a
copy of report(s) or proposal(s) to: Mary Anne Holmes, 214 Bessey Hall,
Geosciences Dept.-UNL, Lincoln, NE 68588-0340. Faxed (402-472-4917)
reports and proposals are also accepted.
Funded projects that involve a group of AWG supporters are perhaps the
best way you can support the goals of AWG and enhance your own and
other.s benefits from the organization. Examples of funded projects
include scout activities, mentoring inner city youth, scholarships, science
fairs, publications and speakers. Questions may be directed to Mary
Anne at 402-472-5211 or awgf@awg.org.

2) AWG MEMBERSHIP DRIVE CONTEST
AWG continues to focus on promoting the professional development of its
members, providing geoscience outreach to girls, and encouraging women
to become geoscientists.
AWG can continue to be effective at achieving these goals by increasing
our membership. Therefore, the Board of Directors announces a
membership drive contest. The contest is open to all members. The grand prize
is one frequent flyer airline ticket (generously donated by
South-Central Delegate to the board, Jean Hsieh). The member that establishes the
most points will be the winner. In the event of a tie, the winner will
be selected in a random drawing. The runner-up(s) will receive one
year paid membership to AWG. Points are awarded for recruiting members,
as follows:
- student members - 1 point
- professional members - 2 points
- sustaining professional members - 3 points
- recruit a member to serve on a committee - 4 points
- recruit a member to serve as an AWG Foundation officer or on the
board - 5 points (to receive credit for this, you must send a note with
the candidate's name to bod@awg.org. Upon the appointment of the
candidate to the board, the recruiter will receive the 5 points).
The contest is valid from June 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004. A
minimum of 10 points is required to compete for the prize. Please have
the applicant indicate the sponsoring member.s name on the membership
application form. If you recruit someone to work on a committee, decide
to work on an AWG committee yourself, or recruit someone to work on the
Foundation board, the recruiter/volunteer should email
office@awg.org to indicate the person who recruited them (or
themselves if they are volunteering). Renewals will count if more than
a year has lapsed from the last date in which dues were paid in full
(ex: the renewal was a member in FY 2002-2003 and did not renew until FY
2004-2005).
For questions or concerns, please contact Allyson K. Anderson at
office@awg.org.

sharpen skills such as public speaking, writing and problem solving. In
addition, Congress Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in
a Congressional panel to discuss groundwater and public health issues.
