It is also possible to fly into Farmington, New Mexico, about 50 miles south of Durango.

Meet at United Campground of Durango at 8:00p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003 for a field trip orientation.

The campground is located just north of Durango (1322 Animas View Drive, 970-247-3853). To get there from town, continue north on Highway 550 which is also called North Main Avenue. Near the north edge of town, the city street becomes a 4-lane divided highway for 1.5 miles only. At the north end of the divided section, make the first right turn toward the Iron Horse Inn, and then an immediate second right onto Animas View Drive before reaching the inn. The campground is on the left (east) side of the road. Tent spaces have been reserved near the river in the name of Mary Gillam. If you need hookups, please make your own arrangements directly with the campground and let Mary know so she can cancel unneeded tent spaces. The campground has showers, a pool, laundry, and small store. For a longer soak, Trimble Hot Springs is just off Highway 550 several miles to the north.
