The individual will develop and implement research with respect to surface and subsurface Late Paleozoic and Mesozoic stratigraphy and sedimentology of Nebraska and the surrounding region. Responsibilities also include maintaining an inventory of, and providing information on, mineral resources and petroleum exploration and production in Nebraska. The successful candidate will be expected to provide expertise/service to members of the public and private sectors, develop linkages with scientists with UNL and other institutions, obtain external grant funding, and publish research in scholarly journals and CSD publications. Opportunity will be available to teach and advise graduate students in allied departments when feasible and desirable. The position requires a Ph.D. in geology earned by the date of appointment. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas: geologic mapping, subsurface geologic and/or groundwater investigations, and GIS. Opportunities for Undergraduate Research in Earth System Science (OUR Earth) is an eight-week program that matches talented undergraduates from around the country with University of Washington (UW) faculty members and researchers engaged in current Earth system science research. OUR Earth is funded by NASAžs Office of Earth Science Education and is supported by Washington Space Grant. Juniors, seniors, and community college students who have completed two years of college coursework are eligible to apply. OUR Earth students receive a $2,500 stipend as well as room and board and tuition for the OUR Earth course at the UW Seattle campus. The program's goals are to encourage women students to pursue graduate studies in science and engineering. The application is to include a 250 word essay describing the student's interest in research and how this opportunity will advance her career goals.
