The Research School of Earth Sciences invites applications for a continuing Technical Officer position in support of our ICPMS Instrumentation Facility. The facility comprises of the following state-of-the-art instrumentation – two Neptune multi-collector ICP-MS, an Element XR high-resolution ICP-MS, a Varian 820 quadrupole ICPMS, a Varian ICP-AES, and an Ar-F 154/193nm excimer laser system – supported by various wet chemistry clean-laboratory facilities.
A highly motivated person with excellent analytical and instrumental skills is required to manage the facility. The successful applicant will help facilitate innovative research across the earth sciences, with a strong focus on high precision isotope geochemistry (radiogenic and non-traditional stable isotope systems).
The position is a full-time continuing position. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Requirements: Applicants should have at least 3-5 years of experience with MC-ICP-MS, including laser ablation sample introduction. Strong analytical skills and experience with 1) maintaining MC-ICP-MS systems 2) developing methods for mass spectrometry, 3) data reduction for radiogenic and stable isotope analysis, and 4) applications to Earth Science problems.
