MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF EARTH SYSTEMS, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY, PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY
The Portland State University Department of Geology seeks a geoscientist position in Earth system modeling. The anticipated start date is September 16, 2013. This hire supports the Department’s commitment to research and teaching excellence in the interdisciplinary and integrative context of the PSU School of the Environment, including the USGS Oregon Water Science Center.
The successful candidate will focus research and teaching on the mathematical modeling of geophysical and/or geochemical processes in the near-surface environment on a range of spatial and temporal scales. The successful candidate is expected to be an excellent teacher and mentor who also maintains an externally funded research program. Teaching duties will include both undergraduate courses in our degree programs and upper division electives related to the candidate’s area of specialization. Examples of courses the candidate may be asked to teach include introductory earth science and courses in numerical modeling of Earth systems. The department website is http://geology.pdx.edu/
Qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree at the time of hire, a record of externally funded scholarly activities and associated publications in peer-review literature and a record of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will make significant and balanced contributions to teaching, research, and service.
