AWG Crawford Field Camp Scholarships

AWG is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Maria Luisa (Weecha) Crawford Field Camp Scholarships in coordination with the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), who have been distributing field camp scholarships for nearly 30 years. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to promising women students who will be attending field camp during the summer of 2006.

Maria Luisa Crawford, Professor of Geology at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, is a metamorphic geologist who has been teaching and involving students in field-based research (primarily in Alaska) since 1965 after earning her PhD at UC-Berkeley. Weecha received AWG’s very first Outstanding Educator Award in 1988 and was an inspiration for the award itself. Many of her students are now working in academia and industry in various geologic disciplines, such that Weecha has passed on her insights to the several generations of geologists.
