To whom it may concern:

It has come to the attention of the leadership of the Association for Women Geoscientists ("AWG") that Leuren Moret has posted an open letter on the Web concerning issues of environmental justice. In the letter, she noted that the Association for Women Geoscientists participated in a symposium on environmental justice in 1995, and Ms. Moret signed the letter as "Past President, Association for Women Geoscientists".

Dr. Moret is a former president of the Association for Women Geoscientists. However, she does not speak for the Association. The views expressed in the letter are her personal views, and do not represent the views of the Association. The only person authorized to represent the views of the Association for Women Geoscientists is its current president.

The title of "Past President" is an honorific; former presidents of the Association do not have any authority to speak for AWG. We have one past president, Dr. Marguerite Toscano, currently serving on our Executive Committee. No other past president serves on our Executive Committee.

AWG expresses no opinion on the matters contained in Dr. Moret's letter, but wishes to emphasize that Dr. Moret is not representing AWG in any capacity.
