Committees Reporting to the President-Elect

PLANNING COMMITTEE- assist the President in furthering the long-range goals & objectives of the Association and plan programs for board meetings & special meetings.

Provide open-format Career Development/Leadership seminars (open to all members and guests) in conjunction with the GSA Annual Meeting, immediately following the Fall Board of Director's meeting. Provide for career development seminars, reference material, or discussions for Board members at the Spring Board of Director's meeting, time permitting. In both cases, draw on AWG membership to engage highly-qualified, pro-bono speakers, publications, or discussion leaders.

Goals:

  • Develop participation for annual membership meeting and include the following considerations:
    • What are we offering members?
    • Why do we want them at a Board of Directors meeting, and
    • Do we want to allot sufficient time for such a major agenda item?
  • Organize board meetings on a biannual basis
  • Develop and implement short-term Association projects for chapter involvement

Maintain:

  • Provide for training seminars at each BOD meeting (coordinate with Career Development Committee)
  • Arrange convention every 5 years - form ad hoc committee 2-3 years before

CONVENTION ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE- coordinate AWG-sponsored functions at other geoscience conventions.

Goals:

  • Make booth available for use by chapters provide a sign up/assignment sheet on our web page.
  • Assist activities of individual members and chapters who wish to host workshops, breakfasts, symposia, etc. at local conventions.
  • Continue to host breakfast at GSA (Coordinate with Business Management and Outstanding Educator Award Coordinator)
  • Hold Membership Drive at meetings of other geoscience organizations (coordinate with Membership Drive Coordinator)
  • Promote product sales at Conventions & meetings of other geoscience organizations (coordinate with Products Coordinator and Chapter Development Committee)
  • Host At Large socials at GSA sectional meetings

Maintain:

  • Continue AWGF funding of booth
  • Keep booth in good condition and materials up to date
  • Coordinate booth activities at other geoscience organization meetings
  • Report on convention activities through GAEA
  • Promote future organizational exchange with the use of 'Thank You" notes to other organizations for their contributions pertaining to AWG's success at a convention

CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE- assist groups of interested women & men with forming chapters of the Association, and aid existing chapters to maintain their status and activity within AWG.

Goals:

  • Develop & follow up on New Chapter Prospects (see also Planning for Executive Committee visits)
  • Coordinate with the student delegate
  • Assist in development of Mexican Chapter, Puerto Rican Chapter, Canadian Chapter. Incorporate International Liaison position into these chapters.

Maintain:

  • Maintain "New Chapter" package & update regularly
  • Ensure chapters submit new officer, financial and yearly activity reports to maintain chapter status, for Association income tax preparation and in time to be consideration for awards

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE COORDINATOR- encourage applications of new members.

LEGAL ADVISOR- review proposed bylaws and make recommendations to the board. Review and provide advice regarding any contracts entered into by the Association.
