Committees Reporting to Editor
PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE- prepare a newsletter for distribution to the membership.
Goals:
- Update Resume Writing Workbook & Career Profiles (coordinate with Career Development & Education and Outreach Committees)
- Expand use of advanced electronic communications to reduce communications costs (coordinate with Membership Services)
Maintain:
- Publish one article on affiliation yearly (coordinate with Publicist)
- Member News & Chapter News in Gaea each year
- Maintain Gaea publishing schedule of 6 issues per year expanding as advertising will permit
- Maintain biography file (Coordinate with Publicist and Past-President)
- Whenever beneficial to the organization, and funding is available through internal or external sources, produce special issues of Gaea
FIELD TRIP COMMITTEE- plan & coordinate all Association field trips.
Goals
- Promote co-sponsorship of field trips between chapters
- Post chapter field trips of general interest on the AWG web site
- Develop additional events in the field led by members of chapters (ex. Geoadventures, Elderhostels etc)
- Offer a reduced rate for student members attending field trips
- Establish a profit margin for field trips and outdoor events
Maintain:
- Continue holding national & international field trips (average 1 major trip yearly)
- Structure field trips to profit AWG ranging from $5 per person on 1-day trips to $50 per person per week long trips
- Coordinate field trip issues (liability, etc.) with chapters & convention or meeting committees
AT-LARGE COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE- facilitate & stimulate communication between At-Large members.
Goals:
- Phone or e-mail contact with all At-Large members
- Identify leaders through these contacts
Maintain:
PUBLIC AFFAIRS- report on issues that may affect members' professional lives: coordinate networking activities with other organizations.
Goals:
- Develop target affiliation with other societies
- Develop position papers on issues such as pay equity, equal employment, woman-friendly work environment
Maintain:
- Maintain affiliations with other societies
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE (PUBLICIST)- provide information on AWG & AWGF activities to the public.
Goals:
- Develop press release system for promoting AWG, including the use of electronic venues
- Coordinate with other committees that collect & distribute information about AWG
- Maintain Biography files (Coordinate with Editor and Past President)
- Identify instances where key documents should and could be published in another language to serve the needs of international members (Publicist will lead coordination in cooperation with the Education and Outreach Committee)
Maintain:
- Target and help to maintain high profile government officials as members (possibly through GSA fellow)
