Association for Women Geoscientists Foundation

[Board Members | Documents: Annual Report, Request for Funding]

The mission of the AWG Foundation is to achieve equality of opportunity in the geosciences for women. We fund high impact programs working towards that equality, from precollege through graduate levels. The Girl Scout Program exposes precollege women to the need for geoscientists, to the work they do, and to dynamic women who are geoscientists today. The AWG Distinguished Lecturer Program connects practicing women geoscientists with audiences primarily in colleges and universities, and provides limited funds for travel expenses. The Chrysalis Scholarship is for women who are nearing completion of graduate degrees, who will soon take new places in the geoscience community.

Anyone with a project that supports AWG's goals may apply for funds. We welcome contributions from anyone who wishes to support AWG's goals.

The AWG Foundation could not carry on without the support of AWG members and chapters. Members contribute one-third of all the funds we raise, and do most of the work of planning and carrying out the programs. AWG's chapters are contributors, sponsors, and organizers of projects. Chapters work with the AWG Foundation to fund local scholarships, awards at local and regional science fairs, and grants to secondary science teachers.

Your help is critical to all of these successes. We can't continue any of them without your support. Every donation makes a difference. With $25, we can buy a geo-gift or dinner for a science fair winner. A $500 donation is half of an AWG Minority Scholarship for an undergraduate or incoming freshman geoscience major. A $200 to $1000 contribution provides part of a Chrysalis Scholarship, removing the last barrier to completion of a graduate degree.

Thank you for your help and support.
